What is image flipping?
Image flipping mirrors a picture across a horizontal or vertical axis. A horizontal flip swaps left and right. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom. The image dimensions stay the same, while the visual orientation changes.
Flip is different from rotation. Use Rotate Image when the image needs to turn by 90 or 180 degrees, and use Flip Image when the image should become a mirror version of itself.
When should you flip an image?
Flip an image when you need a mirrored version for design, printing, scanning corrections or visual comparison. It is also useful for selfies, product mockups and layout experiments.
Mirror selfies
Reverse a photo when the camera preview and saved file differ.
Scanned graphics
Correct mirrored scans, stamps or copied artwork.
Design assets
Create alternate mirrored versions for layouts and print tests.
Horizontal vs vertical flip
Horizontal flip mirrors the image from left to right. Vertical flip mirrors the image from top to bottom. You can combine both directions before downloading if a workflow needs a full mirrored reversal.
Privacy
The image is decoded, flipped and exported in your browser with Canvas. MetricLab does not upload the file, send it to an external image service or store it on a server. The previews use temporary browser object URLs for the current session.
Supported image formats
Flip Image supports PNG, JPEG/JPG and WebP input in modern browsers. The downloaded file keeps the original browser-supported format whenever possible.
