What is image rotation?
Image rotation changes the orientation of a picture without cropping the frame. A 90-degree turn swaps width and height, while a 180-degree turn flips the image upside down. This is useful when a camera, scanner or app saved the file in the wrong orientation.
Rotation is different from cropping, resizing and format conversion. You can use Crop Image to reframe the subject, Resize Image to change dimensions and Convert Image Format when a platform needs a specific file type.
When should you rotate an image?
Rotate an image when the file opens sideways, upside down or in a layout that does not match where it will be used. The common cases are phone photos, scanned receipts, presentation graphics and images prepared for social media.

Does rotating affect image quality?
Rotating by 90, 180 or 270 degrees keeps the same visual content and pixel count, except that width and height swap for quarter turns. The browser still exports a new file, so JPEG and WebP may use compression while PNG remains a lossless raster export.
Privacy
The image is decoded, rotated and exported in your browser with Canvas. MetricLab does not upload the file, send it to an external image service or store it on a server. The previews use temporary browser object URLs for the current session.
