What is image cropping?
Cropping removes part of an image so the remaining area becomes the new frame. It changes what is visible, not just the image dimensions. A crop can remove empty space, focus attention on a subject, hide unwanted edges or create a composition that fits a specific layout.
Cropping is different from resizing. Resizing scales the whole image up or down. Cropping keeps only a selected region and discards the rest. Many image workflows use both steps: crop the important area first, then use Resize Image to set exact pixel dimensions.
When should you crop an image?
Crop an image when the original frame contains more than you need. This is common for product photos, profile pictures, thumbnails, social posts, presentation images, documentation screenshots and phone photos where the subject should be centered.

Privacy
The image you choose is processed locally with browser image APIs and Canvas. MetricLab does not upload your file, call an external image service or store the image on a server. The preview and cropped output are temporary browser object URLs for the current session.
